Who is entitled to sick pay?
In general, only salaried employees are entitled to sick pay. However, many employees are, according to their collective agreements, also entitled to sick pay in full or in part during a certain period.
If an employee is neither a salaried employee nor subject to a collective agreement applying to the employment, the employee is not entitled to sick pay. However, if the employee meets the employment requirements defined in the Danish Sickness Benefit Act, the employee is entitled to receive sickness benefit from the employer during the first 30 days of sickness. After that period, the employee will receive sickness benefit from his/her home municipality.
If the employee is entitled to sick pay, the employer may obtain sickness benefit reimbursement after 30 days of sickness, provided the employee meets the employment requirements defined in the Danish Sickness Benefit Act.
